Interlibrary Loan & Delivery System

The CCD plan shall be maintained and revised as necessary.
 
 
 

The SLS will facilitate Interlibrary Loan per its ILL policy.

Member librarians will be consulted for needs. As needed, the CCD committee will recommend initiatives based on these needs and the CCD plan will be modified accordingly, approved, and implemented.
 

Provide access to ILL monograph and serial resources via CDROM, print, and World Wide Web. The BOCES Courier shall stop at each component district member twice weekly, non-component district library once weekly.

Collections with in-depth subject strengths available for curriculum support in the housing library and for loan among membership.
 
 

Students and staff of SLS members will have increased access to information resources of all kinds.

Online Databases 

The SLS will maintain and update the CIDER Union Catalog database.
 
 

The SLS will make Online Databases available to members

Current acquisitions and deletions of member libraries will be added to CIDER. The SLS portion of NORPAC /ICEPAC, the regional ILL CD-ROM/Online catalog, will be updated as needed. 

An Online Database CoSer will be implemented to allow cost effective access to Online resources. The SLS will purchase appropriate Online Databases for members within the limits of its funding.

Provide users with up-to-date holdings information of monographic and serial resources available in the North Country and Mohawk RIC.

III Identify Special Client Group Needs & the Means for Meeting Them Support school staff as they identify and meet the needs of special client groups on an as-needed, individual basis. Resources to meet the needs of members of special client groups will be available via:

NORPAC CD-ROM Regional database, ICEPAC Regional database and CIDER WebPAC SLS database on the WW Web.

On-line full text databases provided by the School Library System.

ERIC and/or other specialized database searches.

Bibliographies in SLS professional collection, journals and files.

Retrospective conversion of all foreign language resources.

Interlibrary Loans Consultations and referrals as appropriate: in region; OCLC GAC; NYSILL.

Special populations to be served include: students who speak English as a second language, gifted and talented, physically handicapped, mentally handicapped, emotionally disabled, students with attention deficit disorders, learning disabled, unwed pregnant teenagers, abused children, youth at risk, alternative high school and middle school students, students experiencing problems resulting from death of family member or friend, divorce, illness, war, suicide of friend, students with low esteem. 

Students with special needs will be identified and appropriate resources provided.

IV Continuing Education & Training  The SLS will provide opportunities for professional development to staff of its member districts. Per the advice of its Council & Liaison Groups and other feedback from its member librarians as to needed topics, the SLS will provide staff development events to meet those needs. This will include the annual Administrative Breakfast, and SLS-wide staff development days as needed. Provide continuing education opportunities to keep school library media specialists and other member staff up-to-date on professional topics.

V Awareness & Advocacy The SLS will advocate the importance of the library / information mission as appropriate. SLS staff will promote school libraries and systems whenever possible. The SLS will inform members of legislative issues. The SLS shall use its staff development events to educate members in effective library practice and promote the use of same.  The importance of school library programs and School Library Systems shall be evident to the education community.

VI Communication Procedures Among Members and Participants (attachment : Member Plan) The SLS will promote communications among members, participants and the SLS. Each member will file a member plan with the SLS. Selected information from this plan is collated and distributed to members. Member use of the CiderL listserve is promoted. Use of the HOBO regional ILL email network is encouraged and supported. Members provide feedback to the SLS via an annual evaluation. Communication among participants, members, and SLS Headquarters maintained and encouraged.

VII Cooperative Efforts with Other Library Systems The SLS will work with other library systems in the North Country and Mohawk RIC regions. Projects will include CIDER WebPac, the combined database of the Jefferson-Lewis, Madison-Oneida, and Oneida-Herkimer SLS; NORPAC/ICEPAC, the regional database of the North Country region; the North Country Regional Directory and the North Country School Library Systems Union List of Serials. Contact information and information resources shall be easily available across system boundaries in the North Country and Mohawk RIC regions.

VIII Other: System Wide Library / Information Literacy K-12 Curriculum Project The SLS will provide opportunity for a System wide Library / Information Literacy curriculum. A multi day staff development effort shall be scheduled for Summer 2001, contingent on member participation. This will include awareness and curriculum writing activities.  Significant steps towards the provision of a System wide Library / Information Literacy curriculum shall be taken.
