Instruction and Special Programming Librarian - Penfield
Library at the State University of New York at Oswego seeks an innovative librarian for the position of
Instruction and Special Programming Librarian. This is a full-time, tenure track position with faculty status
at the Senior Assistant rank.
Salary: Commensurate with rank and experience of Senior Assistant Librarian.
Responsibilities - The librarian in this position is a
member of the instruction team, and collaborates in developing,
implementing, and assessing new instructional initiatives. As a member
of the team, the incumbent will play a leading role in the creation of
interactive, graphically based instructional materials and in the
development of other online learning projects. This position is
responsible for organizing and coordinating the library’s participation
in special programming activities, including new student orientation,
college open houses, visiting high school classes, and special summer
youth programs. This librarian shares reference duties with other
librarians, including some evening and weekend hours, and provides
collection development, instruction, and general liaison services for
assigned departments. The librarian will participate in scholarly work,
university service, and professional development.
Required Qualifications - MLS from an ALA accredited institution; at
least one year of classroom teaching or library instruction experience;
background in instructional design and/or assessment; strong public
service orientation; strong web, graphic and video editing/screen
casting skills; working knowledge of a wide variety of electronic
reference and journal databases; excellent interpersonal, oral and
written communication skills; ability to work effectively as part of a
team and independently; experience working with diverse students and
faculty in a multicultural environment.
Preferred Qualifications - Demonstrable skills in multi-media software
and programming such as PHP, action script, XML, Java, Ajax; Camtasia,
Flash, database management using SQL & creation of web forms; experience
working with course management systems and software; professional
librarian work experience at an academic library; demonstrated
leadership in managing projects.

Description of Department - Penfield Library is committed to a program of
innovative, learning-centered service to students, faculty and staff at
SUNY Oswego. Located in the heart of campus, the Library is a high tech learning
center supporting the campus curriculum, teaching, and research. The
Library houses a print collection of over 470,000 monographs, two
million pieces of microform, and partial U.S. and New York State
government documents depositories. The Library subscribes to over 40,000
print and/or electronic journals, magazines and newspapers. A staff of
16 faculty and professionals and 18 classified staff provide service 95
hours per week. Penfield’s well-established liaison program provides
support (including collection development, specialized reference,
library instruction and regular communication) to faculty in all
curricular areas. Penfield Library strongly supports the professional

Librarian I - Youth Services Consultant -
The Clinton Essex Franklin Library System (CEFLS) based in Plattsburgh, NY, is seeking a full-time
Librarian I. The position offers an exciting opportunity to work collaboratively with library directors and
staff to improve public library services to children and teens, help increase literacy, and grow into a
leadership role in the field of youth services. The three county library system, consisting of 30
libraries, 3 reading centers and a bookmobile, serves a population of approx. 160, 000 in the beautiful
Adirondack Mountains and Lake Champlain region. This is a classified position, subject to Civil Service

St. Lawrence University has an opening for a part-time Building
Supervisor for the St. Lawrence University libraries.
Duties Include - Supervisory, public service, security and technical responsibilities. Assist
patrons with research questions and schedules research consultations with librarians. Responsible for
specific Circulation, Periodical and Interlibrary Loan tasks while supervising student workers and
maintaining building security. Special projects requiring organizational and technical skills will also
be assigned. Supervisors must be able to work independently to cover a combination of evening, night
(occasionally until 1:15 a.m.) and weekend shifts in all libraries. This position is part-time and
seasonal, generally working 20 to 30 hours/week.
Qualifications - High school
diploma (or equivalent) and 2-3 years previous work experience required. Additional related training,
college work experience and library experience preferred. Experience with computer applications required.

Electronic Resources/Serials Coordinator (Revised and Re-posted) - Penfield Library at the
State University of New York at Oswego seeks an
energetic/innovative librarian for the position of Electronic Resources/Serials Librarian. This is a
full-time, tenure track faculty position.
Responsibilities - This position provides leadership in resource access; monitors current
trends in accessing and managing electronic resources and administers use of electronic resources
management systems and tools, including management of the Serials and Cataloging Departments. Major
responsibilities include management of serials operations, including check-in, cataloging and control
of both print and electronic journals and standing orders; supervision/direction/training of four
full time support staff, including oversight of all copy cataloging.
The Position - Penfield Library is highly automated. We currently utilize ExLibris’ ALEPH 500 system for
Serials Control along with Serials Solutions 360, including Article Linker and Central Search. This
position reports to the Library Director and is part of the Library’s Management Advisory Committee.
Works closely with the Coordinators of Collection Development/Acquisitions, Original Cataloger,
Reference and Library Technology. Assists in planning and goal-setting for the Library and provides
leadership in establishing/monitoring departmental workflows for Serials and Cataloging. Responsible
for the licensing of print and electronic journals and databases and for the authentication,
activation and maintenance of access to e-journals. Assumes a leadership role in providing public
access to electronic journals/serials. Troubleshoots subscription related access problems with
vendors, including Serials Solutions and EBSCO. Provides original cataloging for periodicals and
serials in varying formats as necessary. Provides documentation and support for use of ExLibris’
ALEPH serials and cataloging modules; maintains serials holdings in OCLC; resolves complex problems
pertaining to serials; prepares statistical/evaluative reports to library administration as
requested. Promotes the effective use of electronic serials collections by library staff, students
and faculty. Some reference service, including occasional weekend/evening hours. Performs
collection development and instructional duties in an assigned subject liaison area.
Required Qualifications - ALA-accredited MLS; experience working in serials in an academic
or larger public library, including direct experience with an electronic serials system; supervisory
experience; experience with OCLC Connexion and working knowledge of national cataloging standards
including MARC format, AACR2 and Library of Congress Subject Headings; knowledge of current trends in
serials management and scholarly publishing; ability to work effectively, both independently and as
part of a team; excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills; working knowledge of Microsoft
office software.
Preferred Qualifications - Knowledge of authority control practices; experience with the
ExLibris Library Management System (ALEPH); experience with link resolver and federated search
systems; experience cataloging Internet/Digital Resources; experience working with diversity
issues/diverse students/multicultural environments.
