NorthNet is a regional Internet gateway provided by the NorthNet Internet Services, Inc.. NorthNet passwords are available at no charge to all libraries in Clinton, Essex, Franklin, St. Lawrence, Jefferson, Lewis, and Oswego counties. The purpose of Public Access Accounts is to offer direct, in-library world wide web and gopher access to patrons. NorthNet offers dial in access using a standard telephone line.

Acceptable Use Guidelines for Use of NorthNet
The purpose of Public Access Library Accounts is to support direct, in-library access by patrons to research, resource sharing, education, and library related data.
Public Access NorthNet accounts are issued to libraries for www access and gopher access only. The following features are not available: electronic mail, network news, Internet relay chat.
Libraries may not sell public access to NorthNet.
Libraries using Public Access Library accounts are not restricted in the number of hours of use. However, they re required to logoff when NorthNet is not actually in use by a patron.
Libraries offering public access to the Internet via Public Access Library accounts are responsible for providing assistance to their partrons. Users of Public Access NorthNet are required to observe Internet etiquette at all times.
Public Access Library accounts offer access to Internet files and data which are not reviewed or censored for age propriety. Libraries offering public access to NorthNet where materials selection is age specific need to be aware of this and deal with it according to local policy.
Library use of Public Access Library accounts which is not consistent with acceptable use may result in the loss of access to NorthNet.
Public Access NorthNet passwords are never to be shared with the public.
