collection of newspapers from
Clinton, Essex, Jefferson, Franklin, Lewis, Oswego and St. Lawrence counties.
Information Technology
The Northern New York Library Network provides a wide range
of service and programs designed to meet members’ needs and assist them in improving library
service to their users. In the areas of Information Technology, the
Network provides, free of charge, several online research databases including Wilson
OmniFile, Books 24X7, WorldCat, and the LWW Medical Research database. It also provides
opportunities for libraries to realize significant savings through cooperative data base
purchases through its partner WALDO.
Other recent Information Technology initiatives include establishment of the Northern New
York Ariel Network, which now numbers more than a dozen users; implementation of the resource
sharing system ILLiad, the electronic reserves system Docutek, the e-journal inventory system
Serials Solutions, the regional catalog ICEPAC, and the regional interlibrary loan system
ICICILL
The Network has distributed a training DVD on using ICICILL. Libraries that do not have a
DVD player can click here to
access the CD version of the training. The training video is 27 minutes long, 465 KB, and
designed for VGA monitors.
MLS Graduate Survey Results
In winter 2003, the NNYLN surveyed the library community to determine interest in
MLS opportunities. Survey results indicated potential students are
very interested in taking all or most MLS classes on-line.

Network Connections
Through its relationship with NorthNet, the Network provides dial-up Internet to

Plan of Service
For even more detailed information on the Network and its services, refer to
the NNYLN's Plan of Service.
The Network provides on site technical assistance to health care providers in area
hospitals through its Hospital Library Services Program. In partnership with the CVPH
Medical Center and the Samaritan Medical Center, professional circuit rider librarians visit
area hospitals regularly and provide up to date, research level medical information in the
form of books, periodical articles, and data base searches. Medical information for the
general public is available through the Network's
NNY Healthweb
For more information concerning these projects, contact
the Network office.
